Inking a Collagraph Plate
Though difficult to pinpoint exactly, collagraphs first started appearing in the 1930’s. American printmaker Glen Alps later coined the term “collagraph” in 1956 and is widely credited for having developed to process. In this class a variety of low relief materials are glued collage-style to create images utilizing different textures and patterns. This process is a wonderful introduction to printmaking for younger students, allowing the opportunity to experiment with creating a unified composition from many separate elements. The finished plates are inked with a rubber brayer and printed in the portable printmaking press.
